I've conquered for Cancer Council

Countdown is on - 6 more sleeps!

In less than a week, my Canadian gal-pal, Jane, and her daughter, Jess, and I are going to be tackling this massive stroll over 7 Sydney Bridges. Looking forward to the challenge and time together. 
EVERYONE has been touched by cancer, directly or indirectly, so any and all donations would be welcomed. Even $28, which is $1 per km, would be amazing.

Poignant Perspective

My breast cancer was picked up on an bi-annual breast screen call-back. I had a screen, received a diagnosis, met with a surgeon and had a lumpectomy done all within six weeks. 
Our eldest daughter was living interstate, our youngest daughter was about to start her ATAR exams and my marriage was not as secure as it is today. 
Whilst the cancer diagnosis “rocked our world” there was little time for too much chaos to settle in our hearts or minds fortunately. Once healed, Christmas was upon us which was a blessing and 16 radiation treatments were tended to in the new year without issue. 
Whilst not all treatments are as low-key and simple as mine, once you’ve walked through a diagnosis “fire”, I suggest most people have a significant perspective change. Small issues and worries remain just that. One can become laser focussed on what matters which was largely often “family, friends and fun” for us and i try not to be distracted by less than positive happenings that i can’t control. 
As an old friend used to say “every day on this side of the grass is a good day”. I can’t argue with that simplicity.  B 

I’m walking for a cancer free future

I’m taking on 7 Bridges Walk on Sunday 26 October 2025 and will be uniting with the community to walk 28km around Sydney Harbour. 

Every year in NSW alone, more than 53,000 new cases of cancer are expected to be diagnosed and the impact on families, carers and communities is significant. 

Please sponsor me and help those affected by cancer. Every step counts because all funds raised will help Cancer Council work towards the vision of a cancer free future. Thank you for your support! 

So far this year I’ve helped provide:

873 kids with a SunSmart education

33 calls to trained cancer professionals on 13 11 20

43 hours of a research assistant's time to work on research we fund
