When Life Throws a Curveball: Our Defiance on the Diamond

Life, much like baseball, often throws us curveballs when we least expect them. A cancer diagnosis is perhaps the most devastating curveball imaginable, changing the game in an instant. But as "Full Count Fighters," we believe in digging in, adjusting our stance, and refusing to let that pitch strike us out.

Love for baseball runs deep in our family, (well at least it does for Stevie),  and it’s taught us so much about resilience. It’s taught us about teamwork, about the importance of showing up even when you're sore, and about finding strength when you're "behind in the count." This 7 Bridges Walk is our diamond, and we're stepping onto it with defiant hearts, determined to make a difference.

We wear our Brewers, Phillies, Diamondbacks, and Mets jerseys not just as fans, but as symbols of unity and strength against a common foe. Each logo represents a team striving for victory, and together, we represent a family fighting for hope. Cancer tries to steal bases, but we're here to pick it off. .

This isn't just a walk; it's a defiant stand against a disease that has taken too much from too many, including both our mothers. We're walking for every person who's faced that terrifying curveball, slider, knuckleball - for every family who's rallied around a loved one. Your support fuels our defiance. Please help us turn this defiance into tangible action by donating to our fundraising goal. Let's show cancer that we're not backing down.

Stepping Up to the Plate: Why We're 'Full Count Fighters'

Hey everyone! We are the "Full Count Fighters" (see slightly altered photos) ready to hit the pavement for the upcoming 7 Bridges Walk! Our team name isn't just a catchy phrase; it's a declaration of our spirit, inspired by the game we love and the battle we're fighting.

In baseball, a "full count" means three balls and two strikes. It's the absolute brink. One more ball, and you walk to first. One more strike, and you're out. It's a moment of immense pressure, requiring laser focus, unwavering determination, and the will to not give up. Every single pitch matters.

That's exactly how we feel about the fight against cancer. For so many, a cancer diagnosis feels like being "behind in the count." It's a daunting challenge, a moment where the stakes couldn't be higher. But like a seasoned major league batter, we refuse to strike out. We're stepping up to the plate, digging in, and fighting with everything we've got.

Our family will be kitted out in our favorite MLB jerseys – proudly representing our love for the game as we tackle 28km. This walk isn't just about the distance; it's about honoring those who are fighting, remembering our mothers, who we lost to cancer too soon, and raising crucial funds to ensure that more people get to first base, steal second, hit that game-winning home run and beat this disease.

Join us as we take on this challenge, one step, one bridge, one donation at a time. Together, we can turn this full count into a win - or at least a move in the right direction.

I’m walking for a cancer free future

I’m taking on 7 Bridges Walk on Sunday 26th October 2025 and will be uniting with the community to walk 28km around Sydney Harbour.
