Finish line!

I've conquered 28km for Cancer Council

31 Day 7 Bridges Challenge Completed!

A quick thank you for all the support raising money for the Cancer Council.

Key stats at the end of the month of October:
  • 390.47 Kilometres walked (versus 350.96kms in 2020)
  • Roughly 12.6kms per day for 31 days
  • One pair of new running shoes destroyed
  • Too many blisters to count
  • Renaming of the Anzac Bridge to the Ruth Barnett Bridge
  • $11,000 raised
  • Probably most importantly, a few people actually used my messages as a trigger to go to their doctor and have things checked
That's a pretty reasonable result by any measure!

For anyone holding off until the end of the month before making a donation, here's the link for a final push :)

Day 20 Progress Report - 70 (yes, Seventy) Bridges Walked, and Anzac Bridge renamed

It's the 20th of October, as of this morning I am at 280.04kms. That's the 7 Bridges Walk ten times. The 7 Bridges Walk every two days for 20 days.

Fundraising is now at $9,200.

Most importantly though, the Cancer Council has renamed the Anzac Bridge "the Ruth Barnett Bridge"  after the baby daughter of a friend on mine. 8 month old Ruth passed way on Christmas Day last year after a battle with Neuroblastoma. Her parents, Dan and Tegan, and sister, Noa, are now raising funds for research, and to build a memorial garden for Ruth. The article in the link below includes the links for the garden and for the research funding:

Thanks again everyone for keeping me walking!

Andrew

Day 15 Progress Report

Rain, hail and shine - the story of the last few days in Sydney...

No matter, I keep plugging away, and cracked 200kms in 15 days today. Well ahead of schedule!

Fundraising now at almost $8,000.

Expect an important announcement soon on a virtual renaming of the Anzac Bridge, which the Cancer Council has given me again, as one of the 7 highest individual or team fundraisers.

Please keep the donations coming in, as I need motivation to push well past my initial 300km target :)

Thanks again

Andrew

Day 10 Progress Report

HI everyone, and thanks for all the support so far.

Day 10 and I'm well on track at 135kms done.

The Cancer Council is also on track at over $6000 raised.

Another couple of hundred and I'll tick over $50,000 for my last 5 attempts.

Thank you again for your generosity. A bunch of you keep coming back each year - that makes it so much easier to tape up the blisters and lace up the shoes every morning...

7 Bridges 2021 - 300kms for Cancer Council

After missing the 2019 event watching rugby in Japan (weren't those the days!), many of you will already know that I walked 350kms + in October 2020, as a COVID-replacement for the usual event. With 2021 now also kaiboshed, I’m once taking on the 7 Bridges Challenge, and once again aiming high for over 300kms during the month of October. That's 10kms a day - it's a meaningful time (and shoe) commitment.

Not sure I'll make 350kms like last year - there was a side sponsorship for Breast Cancer Research which kept me going - I'll do my best again if someone steps up!

With very generous support, I raised over $10,000 last year, and as one of the highest individual fundraisers, I had the honour of virtually re-naming the Pyrmont Bridge in honour of my Dad, Terry. Mum was chuffed.

Awareness, prevention, and early diagnosis is key, and a core plank of the objectives of the Cancer Council.

Please sponsor me and help those affected by cancer. Every step counts because all funds raised will help Cancer Council fund life-saving research and vital support services for people impacted by cancer. Thank you for your support!
