Three Emmaus catholic college students who set themselves the goal of winning the school’s prestigious gold award were recently celebrated at an assembly. Jake Attard, Joshua Telford, and Monique Lombardo passed the rigorous requirements for the award which recognises academic achievement, school and wider community service. Jakes’ leadership position was in peer support, with further involvement in the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, seven bridges walk and year 9 clean up. Each Wednesday for a 10 week period Jake volunteered cleaning at Emmaus retirement village as the external community service requirement for his award. Jake said on favourite aspect of school life at Emmaus catholic college was the surrounding wildlife with birds and kangaroos roaming the campus. Joshua’s gold award recognises his strong involvement in the school community. He participated in the ms readathon, harmony day cup, athletics carnival, touch football representative cricket and basketball. For my internal community service I cleaned desks in the humanities building and assisted with homeroom duties. For external service I worked at five senses childcare. When he finish school Joshua hopes to study for a law degree. Monique has been a class captain at the school her involvement in community activities includes the fast forward program ms readathon rock eisteddfod year 6 orientation day and the Australian mathematics competition. Monique has an ambition to study at university for a teaching career.
