Take a walk for cancer Samantha Day SPRING has officially settled in and Sydneysiders are swapping tracksuits and beanies for track shoes and sunglasses, as they venture outdoors to make the most of the warm weather. October is the perfect time of year to slip on those walking shoes for a good cause. Registrations are now open for the fourth annual Cancer Council NSW Seven Bridges Walk on Sunday, October 31. The walk is set to attract up to 20,000 enthusiasts who can walk all, or just a portion, of the 25km-course that crosses Sydney Harbour's seven iconic bridges the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Pyrmont Bridge, Anzac Bridge, Iron Cove Bridge, Gladesville Bridge, Tarban Creek Bridge and Fig Tree Bridge. Feeling puffed at the thought of 25km walk? Never fear walkers can start and finish at any of the bridges and there will be free special event buses and ferries to return people to their starting points. Food, refreshments and entertainment will be available at the bridge villages along the way. The event is set to open at 8am and finish at 5pm. Four-legged friends are also welcome to join walkers if they are on a leash. The Seven Bridges Walk hit the ground running in 2007 and was started up by the Pedestrian Council of Australia. This year, the Cancer Council NSW is a naming partner and funds raised will go toward vital cancer research, prevention, information and support services. Other partners include Telstra, Asics, QBE and the NSW Government, and media partner The Sunday Telegraph.
