Move over Melbourne, Sydney is about to stake its claim as the foodie capital of Australia. Crave Sydney the Harbour City’s month of gastronomy, arts and entertainment is about to begin kicking off with a night of free celebrations today. The new festival brings together several popular events in an effort to rebrand the city as the nation’s food and special events capital. The good food month has been replace by the Sydney International Food Festival, and will come under the Crave umbrella. The festival’s headline event include the Night Noodle Markets in Hyde Park and the World Chef Showcase on October 10 and 11. Chefs strutting their stuff for the showcase include Sydney’s own Neil Perry, Peter Gilmore and Kylie Kwong, as well as Michelin Star chefs Sebastien Bras and Sergi Arola. Crave’s marquee even comes on October 25 when about 6,000 people will picnic on the Harbour Bridge, which will be closed to traffic for the celebrations. The seven bridges walk, inviting Sydneysiders to take in the sights of the harbour and surrounds, will take place the same day. Tickets for the breakfast on the bridge have been limited to NSW residents for the first ear and will be opened to the rest of the world in 2010.
