Hunters Hill Scouts will come to the aid of hungry walkers who are taking part in the annual Seven Bridges charity walk on October 25. The scouts will be in charge of the barbecue for the event and they will have their work cut out for them with 12,000 walkers expected to take part. The Hunters Hill Scouts have been involved since the walk began in 2006 and the Scout hall is used as a base for the walkers to meet and register. The walk is sponsored by beyondblue the Cancer Council NSW Diabetes Australia and The Heart Foundation who all advocate walking as one of the best ways to combat the illnesses they treat. The 25km walk will take participants across seven bridges Sydney Harbour, Pyrmont Bridge, ANZAC Bridge, Iron Cove Bridge, Gladesville Bridge, Tarban Creek Bridge and Fig Tree Bridge. Hunters hill Scouts head Tony Atkinson has been involved with Scouts for 14 years and said getting involved in events like this allowed the 30 Cubs and 18 Scouts in the group to give back to the community. It’s very rewarding to be a part of the Scouts Mr Atkinson said. They take on responsibilities and challenges and learn skills that they may not have a the chance to elsewhere.
