Event Details

Now into it's seventh year, the annual Cancer Council NSW Seven Bridges Walk will return on Sunday 28 October 2012 bigger and better than ever. The course will be open from 7.30am to 4.30pm on event day. You can register for the event by following the links on this site. This is a great day out for the whole family.

The past five years has seen a total of 45,000 walkers take part in the Seven Bridges Walk and over $400,000 raised for charity. The event is a great way to see Sydney, benefit your health, join in a great community activity and raise money for charity. You can donate online or at any of the event Villages or bridges along the way.

To participate in the event you can register online prior to the day or pay on the day. For online purchases people 12 years and over cost $15 and for those registering on the day a fee of $20 will be charged. Children under 12 are free.

It is not a race and everyone is a winner. You can start at any of the seven event Villages and walk clockwise around as much or little of the 27km closed loop circuit as you like. As part of the offerings for the Cancer Council NSW Seven Bridges Walk, there will be food, music and activities at each of the seven Villages.

If you are attempting to complete the entire course, we strongly recommend that you start prior to midday in order to finish before the 4.30pm course and Village closures.

Course

The Cancer Council NSW Seven Bridges Walk will be an experience celebrating walking; it’s not a race and everyone will be a winner. The course is a 27km closed loop circuit that travels clockwise around Sydney Harbour, highlighting many of the magnificent views around the harbour.

The course and facilities will be open from 7.30am - 4.30pm on event day.

Participants can register and start at any Village, where they can pick up their Event Passport which includes a course map and official event wristband.

There will be water stations at each Village for participants to fill up their own water bottles.

To assist Cancer Council NSW in this event we are encouraging people to donate online or on event day at any of the seven Villages.

Around the course participants will use existing pathways and will therefore need to abide by normal road rules.

No special event clearways or road closures will be in place.

All participants walk in a clockwise direction only, this is to ease congestion and make the walk safer for all.

A map will be provided on the day in your Event Passport.

There are two points on the course where there is a decision point:

1. Decision point at Pengilly St/Tambourine Bay Rd, choice of either taking the bush walk track through Tambourine Bay Reserve and along the water of Tambourine Bay to Warraroon Rd, OR to continue along the footpath via Flaumont Ave and Carranya Rd to Warraroon Rd. The bush track is approximately 300m longer.

2. Decision point at Lane Cove Village, at River Rd/Northwood Rd & Kenneth St/Longueville Rd (Blaxlands Corner), choice of either taking the bush walk track through Gore Creek Reserve, keeping on the southern side of Northwood Rd then onto Fleming St, down steep steps to Gore Creek Reserve then rejoin at Gore St OR continue along the footpath by crossing Northwood Rd onto River Rd, then cross River Rd at lights opposite Greenwich Hospital, then onto Vincents St and rejoin with the bush walk route at Gore St. Both routes are approximately the same distance.

There are a number of different ways of going through some of the areas along the course that may be slightly shorter than the mapped Seven Bridges Walk Route, however the course has been identified this way to provide a more enjoyable and where possible, pedestrian friendly navigation through these areas.

Villages

There will be seven Villages around the course that participants must pass through to complete the circle walk. Each of the Villages will provide information, registration, first aid and toilets plus food, refreshments and entertainment.
